role reversal.

So I got my parents Netflix a few months ago. My dad however was initially stubborn. He bought Showtime through our TV service provider, which is perfectly fine, it is his money. He just mentioned that it was lame because he saw pretty much every movie that was on there because they cycle through it. He said he watched the twilight series a few times but never got to finish it all the way through because he either started in the middle of it, or went to sleep before it ended.

So my solution was Netflix. I showed my mom Ip Man because who doesn’t love a good martial arts movie. My dad walked in and I was showing him how to use it, but I think new technology scares him. He told us he was going to trim the trees, but it was 6 pm. It was already dark outside and has been doing yard work all day. He didn’t want to know that his Showtime was obsolete.

Eventually he got used to it and was willing to learn. Now he watches a few movies everyday, I think TV shows on it confuses him, or he doesn’t know how to navigate the episodes. Every once and a while I look through the Recently Watched link on the account to make sure that they are still using it, otherwise I will cancel it. Looking through the list is kinda like parents looking through a teenager’s internet history. When I see titles of movies, I feel like I caught someone… but they’re adults. They’re my parents, they can watch whatever they want. It is just weird when my dad is watching some chick drama about housewives.

But I am glad that they enjoy it. They only watch the really old movies, I can tell because everyone sounds like people in a early 90’s cereal commercial… well any commercial from that era.
